If you plan on living in or visiting Korea to get tattooed by your favorite tattoo artist, then you absolutely need KakaoTalk – a Korean messaging app. When making your account, it will be best if you also had an “Open Chat” profile. This post is about how to create a Kakao Open Chat profile in just 3 easy steps.
1. Download Kakao Talk
Download KakaoTalk from the app store and follow the on-screen directions to create your account, which will be linked to your phone number. The instructions are available in English, so don’t worry.

At the bottom, tap on the speech bubble.
Then tap on the speech bubble at the top right.
Select “Open Chat.” Ignore the Korean I have on the screen, I just left it in so you can see how your screen would change.
3. Creating a Profile
Tap on “Create +” in the upper right-hand corner.
You can edit your name and picture. This is what the public will see, but feel free to turn off “Enable Public Search” at the bottom. It’s normally on by default.
Congrats! You made your Kakao Open Chat profile. Now you can book appointments with the fantastic tattoo artists of Korea while maintaining your privacy.
All you have to do is click on the link in their Instagram bio (it’s not a scam, I promise). The link will take you to their profile, and you just select “Join 1:1 Chat”. Your chats will all be displayed on that first page that I showed you.
